Testimonials

I was delighted to be introduced to Loraine at a time when I needed to make a career shift, re-evaluate my skill set and what I had to offer a future employer. Working over three meetings, Loraine enabled me to assess my core strengths and how to express them during interview, as well as give a fair and accurate account of my career and character in minutes rather than waffle! We updated my CV to be a quality document that could be read by others with ease and did justice to my transferable skills, qualities and aspirations. Anyone going through the same process with Loraine will not be disappointed.

My son was committed and focused on gaining a place at Medical School. He was a strong candidate academically but lacked confidence in interviews. He failed to secure a place the first year and decided on a gap year before trying again. I arranged 1-1 interview coaching with Say It Works (Careers Consultancy). After the sessions my son felt much more comfortable and able to answer the daunting medical questions he faced in another round of interviews. He has now been successful in receiving an offer for Medical School. As a mother, I was extremely impressed with the professional approach and help given by Loraine of Say It Works. My heartfelt thanks.

Despite excellent GCSE and A level results I was unsuccessful in gaining access to any of my chosen Universities. I was terribly disappointed and at a loss as to what to do next. Careers consultations with Loraine enabled me to re-assess what I actually wanted to get out of higher education and ultimately my career. She gave me the confidence to recognise my abilities and achievements and opened my eyes as to the opportunities available to me. Also, she enabled me to see the benefits that could be gained from a well thought out Gap Year with valuable work experience. After my initial despondence the valued careers advice and coaching from Loraine has resulted in me looking forward to a very positive future, with a place offered at a top UK University on completion of my Gap Year.

I approached Loraine at Say It Works for advice when applying for a job which although involved transferring some existing skills also meant preparing for extensive re-training and career development. Whilst I enjoyed my work, I was ready for a career move. I lacked confidence in my abilities; it had been some time since I had applied for jobs or had an interview. Loraine was able to identify many transferable skills I had and show me how my experience met the requirements of the new career role I was considering. I found Loraine’s approach throughout to be professional, informative and insightful. Without her support and guidance I would not have felt anywhere near as empowered, well prepared or confident during the application and interview procedure. I was offered the job and feel happy and well suited to my new position.

After my first year at University I made the difficult decision to leave my course and naturally felt rather unsure about the future. I had worked towards that particular career through my GCSE’s and A levels, but it was not what I had expected and my confidence had taken a battering. When I eventually found another degree course which I thought would suit me better, Loraine helped me to re-write my personal statement for my university application.

Loraine helped me to recognise my strengths and key skills. She managed to get me to pull out my own ideas and came up with suggestions, then guided me towards structuring the information to display my abilities in a coherent and intelligent way; geared towards the requirements of my new course.

On the strength of my personal statement I had an interview, and was offered a place on the highly competitive course there and then. Loraine really helped me to focus on a different future and equip me with the means and confidence to go for it, and I really feel I’ve now found my niche!

Career Coaching sessions with Loraine from Say It Works have been invaluable. Although I am an experienced manager I had felt increasingly dissatisfied with my current situation. Given the turbulent economic climate I was reluctant to look for a new job yet felt frustrated with the status quo. After a number of consultations with Loraine (particularly concerning my career goals) I decided to embark on additional vocational study at post graduate level (part time). The course is challenging, stimulating and providing me with many additional skills. I feel confident that once completed the qualification along with the additional competencies will strengthen my CV and career prospects. I believe that the career coaching sessions have put me on the right path to achieving my career goals.

‘We consulted Loraine after my daughter’s disappointing AS level results. The careers consultations not only helped my daughter to make some difficult decisions but also helped her to regain confidence in herself and recognize the skills and strengths she was able to offer. Loraine made us aware of what was available in higher education, given her particular subjects, predicted A level grades and career interests.
Without Loraine’s help and advice, my daughter wouldn’t have secured a place on the course of her choice at her preferred University. She is now thoroughly enjoying her first year of higher education, excelling in her classes with great confidence and high self-esteem.

My daughter adds: ‘Loraine boosted my self-esteem by helping me to see where my talents and interests lie. She helped me get a clearer idea of which future career I may want to pursue. Now I am studying Advertising and Journalism... I thank her eternally for her support and perseverance in helping me to University!’
